More DescriptionWhat happens when a truck driver from Oklahoma is stuck in Pennsylvania when the apocalypse strikes? That's exactly what happens to Nicko, a 20-something female truck driver from a small town in Oklahoma. Everyone thought the apocalypse would come in the form of bombings by foreign governments, an EMP, or maybe even a plague that turned humans into zombies. What people didn't expect were the bats. The creatures emerge from the night, seemingly coming from nowhere and unlike anything humanity has seen before. Part human, part monster, these 'bats,' as Nicko comes to call them, are something straight out of a horror movie. And they're the thing standing between her and her family over a thousand miles away. "The author takes you on a journey of survival in a world gone crazy. A world where killing, rape, martial law, and devastation are rampant. What would you be willing to do to survive? Do you have the skills you would need to find food and shelter in a world with no communication or people? Being alone and isolated from any form of normal humanity can force people to take stock of themselves and think of ideas to survive. You will learn that fear is your worst enemy while trying to survive the unknown. The fear will affect your thought processes and will determine if you survive or not.I liked how the author made each chapter unique to a certain day or character. By devoting chapters to certain days the reader can understand better where Nicko was in her journey and how far she had traveled. The chapters devoted to certain characters help the reader to understand the role of that character and their impact on Nicko's journey. The author did a nice job of developing each character. I felt like I knew each one of them personally.I recommend this book to adults over the age of 18. I do not recommend the book to younger readers due to the profane profanity it entails. The parts of the book involving the creatures eating people may bother some readers, but it is not morbidly graphic."-Bertha R. Jackson (OnlineBookClub.com)
