Author Biography
Arno, Ed (Author)
Ed Arno was born with the name Arnold Edelstein in 1916 in Innsbruck, now part of Austria. He studied stage design in Paris at the École Paul Colin and had just signed a contract for animation with a film studio when his homeland was taken over by Nazi Germany. He and his family, who had been living in Czernowitz, were forced into the city's ghetto before being deported to labor camps. Arno was liberated by Soviet forces in 1944.

He worked as an animation cartoonist and director of a children's publishing house in Bucharest, Romania. He also contributed his cartoons to satirical magazines in Romania and the Soviet Union from the mid 1950s until 1965, when he emigrated to the United States.

Arno's cartoons appeared in The Saturday Evening Post, Look, Saturday Review and Reader's Digest. For more than 30 years his work appeared regularly in The New Yorker, beginning in 1969.

In 1998, the "Ed Arno's Most Wanted" collection was published. He also illustrated "The Magic Fish" and wrote and illustrated "The Gingerbread Man," both children's works.
