Flame

Judy Feiffer was born Judith Reeve Sheftel in Manhattan, New York on March 30, 1929. She briefly attended the University of California, Berkeley. She lived in Europe in her early 20s and studied under Gjon Mili, the Albanian-American photographer for Life magazine. Her portrait of Norman Mailer appeared on the jacket of the first edition of his 1959 book Advertisements for Myself.

She was a book editor who fostered the best-selling memoirs I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou and Mommie Dearest by Christina Crawford. She later wrote four novels including A Hot Property. She died on June 27, 2016 at the age of 87.
