Corporal Gustav Magnusson, a young Quiaker in Harper's company, butts heads with Harper from the beginning. Thrust together by capture, they must work together to protect themselves and their men from the sadistic Rebel Captain Bell -- who would rather see his prisoners dead than sent into imprisonment.
