Lethophobia: The Fear of Oblivion is an existential collection of short stories with an interlocking story. It covers many genres such as everyday life,
science fiction, fantasy, comedy and
spy-noir. There is a story in it for every adult.
Stories included are:
- Lethophobia - Have you ever waited for a bus that never seemed to arrive even after multiple scheduled times? In this semi-autobiographical story one man stands waiting as stories interlock with his.
- The Burden - A woman finds herself surrounded by a world collapsing under it's own anxiety and she is confronted with an opportunity she can't refuse.
- Adventures of Dorian Tesla - It's dangerous being a spy dealing with mad scientists, monsters and the mob. Even worse when a Giant Squid is involved. See how Dorian gets out of this one.
- The Ticket - What would you do if your friend wanted you to buy a lottery ticket because a shroom induced hallucination told him to a year ago?
- Last Sun - The universe is folding into itself and slowly dying. It's up to one astronaut to find a planet that can help. Too bad his first visit was a crash landing.
- Treading Water - TWA flight 800 crashed into the Atlantic in the 90's. No one survived. One man finds himself on the cusp between death and life while someone else's life flashes before his eyes.
- Vampires - Philadelphia is filled with a large mix of people. We meet a few as a mother and her son go shopping through the city.
This collection of almost unconnected stories was created over several years by Asher Humm, a graduate of SCAD in the Sequential Art department. He never intended on making a book quite like this and certainly never expected to be a writer. Asher has been the sole talent with Lethophobia. He wrote, illustrated, inked, painted, lettered, paginated, edited and colored (flat colors, not final) the entire book. Even the fonts and sound effects were designed by him.
"A lot of this stuff is thought provoking and that you could read it every six months and have a different reaction to it."
-Andrew Davis (popanimecomics)
"I've read it multiple times."
-Ayce (Brags and Boards @ReaderUnnatural)
