Most children, up to a certain age, consider themselves to be artists at one point or another. According to Websters dictionary, an artist is "a person who creates art? using conscious skill and creative imagination". More DescriptionMost children, up to a certain age, consider themselves to be artists at one point or another. According to Websters dictionary, an artist is "a person who creates art? using conscious skill and creative imagination". So, it stands to reason that if one is consciously creating and using their imagination, no matter the age, then an artist they are if only for that moment. Such was the case for Alex Wooten as he knew exactly what he was drawing at the time he created each work of art, regardless of how rudimentary it was. And for his Papa, his biggest supporter, each work of art was certainly a "masterpiece". This book is a wonderful compilation of many of the "masterpieces" of Alex between the ages of pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. These drawings contain a variety of mediums he used from crayon to magic marker, chalk to watercolor paints, pencil, colored pencils, pens, or just plain colored paper. Each new idea was created with delightful imagination and to Alex's imagination, there was no end. His early drawing of Thomas the Train, the train that most every little boy loved, was whimsical. The circular wheels, the box shape of the train and the uniform crisscrossing of the tracks were well done for a young preschooler and, of course, had a proud Papa exclaiming about it. As the years progressed, so did the detail of the art and the drawings became more complex as with the fish and sharks Alex so enjoyed creating. Quite an adventurous imagination he had with these underwater creatures although he captured many true scenarios within the drawings. The simple spaceship series was yet another example of conscious skill and imagination and it was a wonderful thing for Alex's Papa to see. Papa had such pride in everything that this dear child was doing, and it was a blessing to be a part of it.From preschool through eighth grade and beyond, whether it was just for fun, or part of a school project, Alex's imagination and creativity can easily be seen in each of his wonderful "masterpieces".
