This is a very practical purpose for prophecy as Jesus chastised the leaders for their failure to recognize the time in which they lived (Matthew 16:2-3) There is, however, another very important aspect of biblical prophecy. God has revealed the eternal future in His Word with the intent that it motivates His children to live in obedience now. Biblical prophecy is an important part of believers setting their minds on the things above (Colossians3:1-2). Every born-again believer has an eternal destiny that is affected by their faithfulness now while in this temporal realm.
